Resolved Question: Can a landlord lie about living arrangements then keep the deposit?

I live in Vallejo, CA. I moved into a house on 9/30/11 with the homeowner and his partner. They charged me $500 rent and $500 deposit. When I agreed to move in they had told me that just the 3 of us would be living there which is why I moved in, because it was uncrowded and allowed me some alone time due to all of our work schedules. The first weekend after I moved in a new person moved into the garage and he has been less than pleasant, and as a result I have given notice for Dec. 1st. Now, 2 days ago another person moved in to the other bedroom. Now, I want to move out Nov. 1st but the homeowner said I would lose my deposit if I did. Can he do this? Don't I have the right to leave if he has so dramatically changed the living arrangements?
